2024 marks José Ignacio Cornejo Florimo's 9th Dakar. The Chilean is pleased with the evolution of his career and has been with the Honda factory team for the past few seasons. Very self-critical of his performance and results, he doesn't hesitate to say that 8th place on the 2023 Dakar isn't among his best performances, which left a bitter taste in his mouth. His career took off after his first two Dakar participations. Days before the 2018 edition, when he had decided to withdraw for financial reasons, he received a call from the Honda Team to join them, replacing the then-injured Paulo Gonçalves. "Nacho" made the most of that exceptional opportunity, and an impeccable performance earned him 10th place overall. In the 2019 Dakar, he worked hard to improve that position and achieved a commendable 8th place result. As an official Monster Energy Honda Team rider, the native of Iquique had a sensational performance in 2020. He took two victories, including the final stage, holding off Ricky Brabec and fighting neck and neck with Matthias Walkner and Luciano Benavides. The 2021 edition was his toughest. "Nacho" was leading the general classification and was second in stage 10, one minute behind Ricky Brabec, when he crashed hard at km 252 of the special. Although he completed the stage, he decided to retire from the race in agreement with the medical team. The Chilean, always self-demanding, described the fall as "a rookie mistake". In 2022, he suffered a delay in the opening stage but recovered with two stage victories. In the second week, he showed great pace, which led to a 6th place finish. Encouraged by Honda's Constructors' Title, "Nacho" says that the team is very solid with the addition of Skyler Howes to the squad, which includes Adrien van Beveren, Ricky Brabec and his compatriot Pablo Quintanilla.
