The Desert Fox, ready to ambush

Mathieu Serradori owes nothing to nobody. After an amateur ‘career’ in enduro, supermoto and rally-raid, the biker from the south of France switched to four wheels, again as a privateer. But he did so with plenty of ambition, with his own team, using the then little-known South African built Century buggy and a certain Fabian Lurquin… An amateur, a 2-wheel drive buggy and a co-driver called Lurquin, the parallels are uncanny. And just like his role model, Jean-Louis Schlesser, he made an immediate impact. 8th on the 2020 Dakar for just his second participation in a car he also won his first stage victory. Owner of a business specialising in electricity, Serradori went on to rapidly expand his SRT outfit, offering other drivers the opportunity to drive the powerful Century CR6 buggy. His much-anticipated 2021 Dakar did not however go according to plan and after a night out in the dunes he tumbled down the rankings. With his co-driver unable to resist the offer to navigate for Sébastien Loeb, Mathieu turned towards Frenchman Loïc Minaudier. Another ex-enduro rider turned navigator, the duo used the Rallye du Maroc to prepare for the Dakar and set up an evolution of the CR6. Come January the French pairing moved steadily up the leader board to finish 7th overall. A finely judged performance for the opening round of the W2RC which puts the SRT crew in 5th position overall with 33 points on the score board going into the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge. That’s just 3 small points behind the 4th place occupied by the Polish ex-bike racer Jacub Przygonski. Then once out of the Abu Dhabi dunes the ‘Desert Fox’ will be heading for the steppes of Kazakhstan, a race he won in 2021.
