- It's all about motor racing. Guy Botterill is never far from a racing car. Even his wife comes from a famous South African family of drivers. For Guy, it all started at the age of eight, when he took up karting. Since his debut in the world championship, the South African has never left the circuits, racing production cars before moving on to rallying.
- That was when his long-term relationship with Toyota began. Highly successful on the local and continental road rally scene, he then moved on to off-road rallies, and there was no better team than Toyota Gazoo for such a change.
- After competing and learning in the South African Cross Country Championship, the 38-year-old driver, who also enjoys fishing and all outdoor activities, finally found himself on the starting line of the Dakar Rally in January 2024.
- Alongside veteran Brett Cummings, Botterill impressed. As the best Toyota Gazoo factory driver and 6th in the general classification, he also won the trophy for best rookie.
- Born in Pietermaritzburg, Guy Botterill unfortunately failed to live up to the promise of his debut. His second Dakar, alongside Dennis Murphy, came to an end on stage 8 due to an accident.
- After a season spent between the South African championship and a few rounds of the W2RC (Abu Dhabi, Safari Rally), he returns for his third Dakar with a new co-driver: Spaniard Oriol Mena.
