Led by a consortium of Belgians, including driver Guillaume de Mévius, the company KTM X-Bow is working on a new off-road. It includes the development of an SSV which will soon be competing, as announced by the 2024 Dakar Rally runner-up.
Until recently, KTM was mainly known in the W2RC for its motorcycles. The name now also appears in the FIA standings, in the Challenger category, under the banner of the KTM X-Bow powered by G Rally Team. The team notably works with Puck Klaassen, winner of two Dakar stages, and Charles Munster, recent bp Ultimate Rally-Raid Portugal runner-up. The structure was created following the acquisition of KTM X-Bow, KTM's automotive division, by five Belgians in 2025. Among the buyers is Guillaume De Mévius, head of the G Rally Team, which is partnered with KTM X-Bow in the Challenger category. And which he now plans to take to… the SSV class!
“The ambition is to add an off-road project. [...] KTM will enter competition through this team, in the SSV category. It’s a new chapter”, the driver-entrepreneur explained to Forbes Belgique. De Mévius, who has himself been competing in the W2RC since the championship’s creation in 2022, revealed his intention to field his future SSVs in races, the best possible testing ground for developing a vehicle. This project is expected to be called KTM X-Bow Off-Road.
Driver, tuner, then manufacturer
Driver, tuner, then manufacturerIn doing so, De Mévius continues his foray into motorsport as a manufacturer. The Belgian has indeed inherited the OT3 project, launched by Overdrive Racing in 2019 before it was given to him. He contributed to the success of the OT3 by developing it, but also by winning with it – notably the 2022 Andalucia Rally. The OT3 has since evolved into the G-Ecko, a vehicle "entirely designed and developed in Walloon Brabant, which incorporates all the feedback from our customers/drivers. We have gone from being a tuner to a manufacturer."
While he will logically have a say in the KTM SSVs, De Mévius plans to leave the driving to other competitors. The Belgian wants to continue his career in the Ultimate category, where he drives a Mini for the X-raid team. He will serve the KTM X-Bow Off-Road project as the team owner.
